We are excited to share that Pond Works has been featured in the Contractor’s Corner section of POND Trade Magazine with our article, Building a Living Classroom: The Kallangur State Primary School Ecosystem Pond Project.
While we have previously shared the story of the Kallangur State School build across our social media platforms and other blogs, this feature provided an opportunity to showcase the project to an international audience within the pond and water gardening industry.
International Recognition for a Queensland Pond Project
POND Trade Magazine is a respected publication and website within the water feature and ecosystem pond industry, reaching contractors, designers and pond enthusiasts around the world.
Having this project featured in Contractor’s Corner was a proud moment for our team and highlights the growing interest in nature-based educational spaces and ecosystem pond construction within schools.
About the Project
The Kallangur State School ecosystem pond project was designed as an interactive outdoor learning environment where students could connect with nature through water, wildlife and hands-on exploration.
The completed project included:
- a natural ecosystem pond
- streams and waterfalls
- shallow interaction zones
- bridge crossings
- wetland and aquatic planting areas
- habitat zones for fish and wildlife
One of the most unique aspects of the project was that the original concept came from students themselves as part of a persuasive writing assignment.
Showcasing Australian Pond Construction
The publication also provided an opportunity to showcase Australian pond construction and the work being completed here in South East Queensland.
School-based ecosystem ponds present unique challenges, particularly around safety, accessibility and long-term sustainability and it was rewarding to share how these elements were carefully integrated into the final design.
Projects like this demonstrate how natural water features can become meaningful educational tools while also creating calm, engaging outdoor environments for students and teachers alike.
